"It's not the clients; it's the system".
These are the words I needed to hear when working in community mental health. Upon graduating, I was eager to help as many people as possible heal.
I was naive and believed that everyone in the helping field genuinely wanted to build those around them until I learned some hard truths.
02.
I know what it's like to work with colleagues that see you as competition, not to mention how having a supervisor with a personality disorder can mess you up.
I don't say this to pathologize her but rather to highlight what happens when we don't work on our healing.
No lie, on my first day of CMH, I clearly remember thinking, "What did I get myself into?" I knew something was off and quickly picked up on the unspoken message:
"If you want to get your hours in, deal with it, and if you won't, good luck."
I was terrified that I would find another supervisor like the one I had, so, for a minute, I decided I would stay in this "secure job” because at least it was familiar, and who knows what was out there.
The familiar story I hear from therapists is that you're drowning in playing catch up with your notes on a Saturday morning when you'd rather hang out with your girlfriends over brunch.
Plus, it's not like your toxic agency job pays you enough to work all these damn extra hours.
03.
The truth is, you've been downplaying how bad things are.
You've questioned whether you’re being…
too sensitive
too demanding
too dramatic
I get it–trauma skews our perception of reality, and therapy can heal what you’ve pushed down. Lately, you've been daydreaming of…
becoming your boss
having financial freedom
having a work-life balance
yet limiting beliefs prevent you from taking action. It would make a difference if you had a loving person that could pour into you in ways you haven't gotten yet.
You need a seasoned therapist with whom you could bare your soul. One who will help you pick up all the pieces of you and put them back together so that you can find yourself again. I'm ready to go deep. Are you?
04.

My Specialties
-
Are you struggling to balance motherhood, marriage, and private practice? I get it because the struggle is real. You hold space for everyone, but who is holding space for you? Practice what you preach and be tended to.
-
Do you want to work through a traumatic event or a negative belief that keeps coming up for you? EMDR can help you reprocess those experiences so that you no longer have unpleasant emotions or cognitions attached and can move on with your life.
-
Your analyzer part has worked hard to help you process the hard stuff, but you can't rationalize your way to healing. You need something that goes deeper. In session, we will slow down and tend to the areas that need care and attention so that stuck energy can move through your body and you can experience health.
-
Are you seeking a therapist who understands the importance of having a close relationship with God? You may be in a dry season where you can't sense Him, which evokes different emotions. We can invite him into our work together so that you can strengthen your walk with the Lord.
